Clara's first Birthday

A Cake, beautifully decorated by dad. Yes. I am serious. Owen really did that.
Clara in her super cute new first birthday party dress.
A family shot out in front of the house...you can see Clara's baby brother or sister starting to make an apperance!
Clara's first musical toy...I think I am more excited about it than she is. It's from me and dad. We had mostly family and several friends over to celebrate the occasion. We are so thankful to have friends and family who have walked us through this first year of being parents! We had brunch and cake and lots of fun. Thanks to everyone who gave Clara great gifts that will help her to continue to grow and learn. We had so much fun. I can't believe my little baby is one!

Sweet Girl Today

Here's my sweet girl today. She wore this hoodie for about 2 hours...never taking the hood off. It was too cute to pass up. She has a runny nose and a cough today so she's been a little less "sweet" than normal. But she's still pretty cute! She's napping right now so that's what I am about to do.

Meet Dash

So this is Dash. He's the young man I mentioned in a previous post. I will be watching him on most Mondays until April while his mommy goes back to work. She is a nurse so only works 3 days a week. My girlfriend Amanda is braver than I am and she will watch Dash the other two days. I had him yesterday for the first time...he was seriously the easiest baby ever. Hardly fussed at all and was content to mostly eat and sleep. At four months, I think he weighs about 14 or 15 lbs. He sure is a cutie and has tons of smiles...although I couldn't get it on camera yesterday! So in case you see this little fellow sneak his way into some posts you know who he is now.

Christmas Tree Decorating

I believe it's been two years since we have decorated our house for Christmas...two years ago we were in Sacramento so no need to decorate a home we wouldn't enjoy. Then last year, I was working a TON and also 9 months pregnant...no more explination needed.

So this year we thought we would do it right with lots of pictures and decorations! The top photo is of Clara on our kitchen table with all the ornaments spread out. She thought everything was fun to look at.
We found a childproof-ish ornament that she could hold

OOOOHHHHHHHHHH lights! We picked up a new package of lights and she definitely thought they
were pretty!
Clara and Daddy hung up the ornaments. It was so much fun. And to think...just a year ago she was still in my tummy at this point!

These are the two food items I made...the one to the left here did not make it to the Thanksgiving table, as we enjoyed it with our friends the night before. It's a pear custard tart. It was so pretty I had to take a picture. I don't usually do that! The pears came from Great Uncle Steve's tree.
My favorite Thanksgiving and Christmas and any time in between holiday treat is Cranberry Relish. This is a special secret recipe that I've made the last three years...the Maurers (with the exception of Great Grandma are not huge fans of Cranberries...but in my mind, that's great because it means I have leftovers...the leftovers go on everything!

Thanksgiving Crowd

At this table from Left to right, Matt, Great Aunt Pattie, Great Grandma Dort, Great Grandpa Erv, Grandma Joy, Great Aunt Christie, Great Uncle Ced, Ashley
At this table, left to right, Uncle Isaac, Great Uncle Steve, Justin, Uncle Andrew, Great Uncle Rick

Left to right, Jamie, Great Uncle Jim, Josh, and friend Anna

Anna, Sarah, Great Aunt Laura, Daddy Owen
Of course, these names are all from Clara's perspective...those without a "aunt or uncle" in front of thier names are all cousins but I don't know if they are second cousins or what to Clara.

Clara's First Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating Thanksgiving. Owen made the comment a couple of weeks ago, and said "what was Clara
like last year on Thanksgiving?" To which I replied, I don't know what she was like because she was in my belly! How quickly we forget what life was like pre children!
The super cute outfit Clara is sporting is from Noni and some gift cards that I recieved when Clara was first born. I've held onto them so that we could put her in some fantastic clothes from Janie & Jack on her first birth and first real round of holidays. Too cute for words! The boots are from Walmart. Just as an FYI...we don't regularly shop at grossly expensive baby boutiques, it was just this one time for a special occasion. You'll see more pictuers from her first brithday party and another little shindig in a few weeks with another outfit there.

So back to Thanksgiving...We celebrated with the Maurer and Messner family . We had TONS of food, ham, turkey, all the fix'ins. I will post pictures of the food and family a little later today.

We are so thankful for our health, our sweet girl, our growing healthy baby (15 weeks now) our family and our friends. We're also thankful that we have a loving savior that showers us with grace despite our sinfulness. What a wonderful God we serve.

BM # 2 is growing well I guess, I do have a belly which I am not happy about. I didn't show with Clara until I was about 16 weeks and even then, I told people that I was pregnant so they wouldn't look at me funny! We have an ultrasound mid-December--no we wont find out what we're having, just if the babe is healthy.

Thats it for now.

Rain

It's raining this morning--the first rain in three months.
It will be raining tomorrow for the first time on Thanksgiving in more than 20 years acording to the news station. I can't tell you how happy that makes me.
All my life, my childhood, I can remember rain on or just before Thanksgiving. I have permanent memories of all 5 of us driving in our aerostar mini van to Grandma's house, the swish of the tires that you get only when the road is wet...every year it is inevitable that something essential (like heavy whipping cream) was forgotten and my dad would run into whatever mini-mart was open to grab the item...avoiding puddles all the way. I am excited about the rain!
We're celebrating my favorite holliday tomorow with the Maurer/Messner clan. I promise pictures. I already have Clara's outfit picked out. It's pretty fabulous! More later

Garage sale

We had a garage sale last week. It wasn't hugely successful, but, it was fun and we enjoyed meeting some new neighbors. Our entire historic district participated which was fun. We also invited our small group to bring items to sell if they had any. The guy in this picture below is our friend Colin. He came and brought stuff...and then he left. Just kidding. He was being a wonderful husband and took his new bride out to breakfast. Clara is sporting her super cute Strawberry hat and sweater that I found years ago at the UMOM thrift store. Too cute! Here's a shot of our stuff, we had more, but I wasnt being a super good photog that day! We had hot dogs for all of our friends and family who helped out. It was fun. Our house is now a little cleaner and more organized!

Smart Cookie!

For some reason, Clara has been falling over a lot...I think it can be attributed to how she is learning new ways to move her little body and bend over etc. The other morning, she had fallen off this little chair several times and was frustrated.
So, instead of choosing something else to play with, she moved this couch pillow in front of her...seriously! It was so funny. The pillow started off on her right side, and she moved it to where she'd been falling. HMMMM is she going to be spacially (I don't know if that is a word) smart like her daddy?

The previous night she was home alone with her dad and he decided that it was time to reorganize the furniture in her room. All was fine and dandy in Clara land, she got her bottle, she had her blanket, but when Owen tried to lay her down in her newly arranged crib (it was facing a new direction) she was not having it! So Owen tried another few ounces of milk and laid her down again...still she was hysterical. Being the good daddy he was, he took her out of her crib and moved the furniture to how it was supposed to be and she laid right down and went to sleep. Like I said, she's spacially aware...or maybe she's just particular like her mommy!

Just Words

So I haven't been a super dedicated blogger lately. We've been busy, sort of. Mostly I am just growing a baby...we're in the second trimester and I am waiting for that blissful burst of energy that is supposed to come in the second trimester...hmm little friend where are you?
We're just over 13 weeks so just 28 weeks to go. AHHHHH

Clara is doing great. She is 11 months old and as wonderful as ever. She's crawling and cruising quite a bit which is really fun. Our house hasn't been hard to babyproof since it's so small.

We had a garage sale last week and I have some pictures I'll post soon. More regular blogging in the future as we head towards the holidays, Clara's birthday, and a new little guy that I'll be caring for once a week!

Tons of Personality

Clara is proving to be a little character...a ham...a chip off the old block if you ask me! For those of you who know us well, Owen and I have never been lacking in cheesy personality! It's been so much fun to see her developing and changing. It seemed like it happened slowly at first, but now I see her do something new and different just about every day. Her latest fun trick is making the "spanish rolled 'r'" sound. I don't know how she learned how to do it but she does it all the time almost in a sing song little voice. It's quite funny!

We are getting ready to celebrate her first birthday. I am sure there will be at least a few comparison posts to see how much she has changed and grown. For today though, here's a great picture of her personality starting to come through!

To cheer you up Great Grandma!

Today, Owen's Grandma is having hip surgery. Not fun! So I thought I would post these pictures to cheer her up. There's nothing she likes more than a clean baby!
We prayed for you last night Grandma! We hope the surgery goes well and that after this the pain is minimal. You've been through so much!
Tonight for Halloween, we're staying in, eating a bake at home pizza and handing out candy. Grandma Joy was so generous to give us these super cute bags to hand out to kids so hopefully they'll go over well. We typically have about 20-30 kids. This year it's a fair night and a Friday night and Halloween so I am wondering if I underestimated how many will come by. Our friends down the street who live in a primo-historic district said they get around 1000 trick or treaters...not I did not add an extra zero, it's really 1000. You'd have to take out a second mortgage on your home just to afford the candy! I don't have a costume for our little peanut, but if I decide to get creative at the last minute, I'll post a picture.

Winter Lawn & Water fun

One thing I'll never understand about Phoenix is why it is necessary to plant a winter lawn and a summer lawn. I will say, I prefer the winter lawn, it's nicer grass! Owen planted ours this Monday evening (he worked until about 10:00 pm as he did our neighbors as well). It needs lots of water so to help give me a break after a long day with Clara, Owen had her help him water the lawn. Although things look ugly and brown now, in a few weeks it'll be super beautifully green!
"Look Mom! I am touching the water!"
Clara was clapping but I couldn't quite get it on camera. She had a great time!
I love this shot. How wet can she get Owen?

LEGOS!

Owen and I are lucky enough to live near a great historical district here in downtown Phoenix. They have a HUGE yard sale every year and this year for the first time we went. We did score in several areas for Clara, but perhaps the best purchase was a whole lego bin full of legos. Owen has told me story on story about how he and his brothers would play for hours on end with legos. So here are some pictures of Owen playing with Legos with Clara...she mostly watched. But at least it was fun for dad! I love those two.

New Life

New Life is beautiful even when it looks like a bean. As you can see in the photo below...the head has empty "chambers" The nurse was explaining how this was normal for an 8 week baby--Owen said "well, it must be a boy since it has nothing in it's head." You all can start the predictions because we're definitely not finding out!
