Daddy's old stomping grounds & working mom

THE SPLASH PARK

Please just try to ignor the spit up...such a cute picture!

Holding on for dear life!

Last night Owen, Clara and I took a spur-of-the-moment trip to the Splash park. It was so much fun! Clara was excited to be in the water as much as she could but mostly she liked watching the other kids playing. It was a great way to cool off. As you can see from her ear to ear grin, she enjoyed herself. Owen was the manager of this branch of the Tempe Aquatics program for several years...I sure am glad we just went to visit for fun, and not to visit daddy at his evening job!

I went back to work today...well not really. UMOM New Day Centers just hired a new Volunteer Coordinator, the job I had before becoming a mommy. (http://www.umom.org/) I am training the new gal named Jessica over the next several weeks. It was super fun to be back and say hi to everyone, but I have no idea how women do it...being 100% for two totally different worlds must be very difficult. More power to all those working moms!

Owen sent me flowers today...how sweet. It's in celebration of our 4 year anniversary tomorrow. I cannot believe it's already been 4 years. I love Owen.

Movin on up!

Clara Joy, 2 days old, 4 lbs 12 oz

Clara Joy, 11 weeks old, 7 lbs 10 oz

Clara Joy, 16 weeks old 11 lbs 3 oz

Clara Joy 6 months old 14 lbs 12 oz

I cannot belive it! Clara has gained 10 lbs!!!! yeah! Well, 10 lbs since she was born.
We had her well baby check up today and everything looks great. Clara is now in the 25th Percentile (up from the 5th) so that's awesome. The funny thing is her head size went from below the 5th percentile to the 50th percentile...the doctor said she basically has a big melon! Hmmm I wonder where that came from?
Anyways, she now can eat solids 3 x a day! And she can decrease the amount of milk I am giving her which is good. All in all a very good check up. She got her shots today but was surprisingly very undramatic about it. I didn't get her stats for height, but basically she's short and round.

It's amazing that this little girl has already been in my life for 6 months. Oh how things have changed. I love her more every day.

Who needs a Pool Anyway?

"I love wearing just a hat"

"Oh to ponder life"

"Really Mom?"

"I'm so cute, here let me show you!"

Today we stayed home and created a special activity for Clara.
It's only 110 degrees now so If igured a little water activity would be good for us!
I filled up a rubbermaid bin with water and set it outside on the patio and threw in some toys for Clara. She loved it!
She played for 25 minutes (for a six month old that's a long time!). Notice the captions under each photo...what an expressive face!

I'll be back tomorrow with Clara's six month old "well baby" check up stats.

Sitting Up, Swing & Whatever it takes!

Hey Look Mom, I can sit up!
Clara learned how to sit up this week...it was an interesting process. Everyone at church has been asking me, "Does she sit up yet?" And my response was, "Is she supposed to be sitting up yet?" So like a good little mommy that's what I've worked on with her this week. She was doing fine sitting up with help and then yesterday I went ahead and let her take a few tumbles to let her know that it doesn't feel good to fall down. She hasn't fallen one time today!

Outside swing.
Doesn't she look thrilled? Owen and I have been excited to get an outside swing for Clara. We thought for sure that she would really enjoy it and it would be something that would make a sad baby a happy baby. Well, not that she doesn't care for it, but she sure isn't screaming with glee. This is her face every time I've put her in it. Do you think it's the hat?

Finally, this photo is the "whatever it takes" moment of all moments. After a long day of a really fussy baby and no naps, I was willing to do just about whatever was necessary to keep Clara from crying (except hold her which I'd done all day). So in order to clean the kitchen, Owen and I loaded her in her swing and continued to add toys to her little chair at each little noise she'd make. This was the end result. I will admit, this method was not very effective!

Happy Fathers Day Owen

Photo taken by Kaceyluviphotography.com

Your first fathers day...I hope you will always remember.

In our wedding vows you said "As a father I promise to train our children in the way they should go through love, laughter and discipline". Although we haven't had to practice much discipline yet, you have definitely showered Clara in love and she's provided a lot of reasons for laughter already! When she was first born, watching you care for our tiny daugther with tenderness and love was so special...the way you took care of your super hormonal wife added even more to the many memories created in those first weeks.

You have already created a special bond with Clara. I can see each day as she grows more and more responsive to you! She loves the little voices you make up to tell her stories, the silly way you make faces at her while you play. One of my favorite things that we do as a family is take walks in the evening. Walking with her daddy can't get much easier!

Each day a new adventure comes, swimming, swinging, laughing and playing

I hope that you always know that I feel so blessed to have you as the father of my child, and should the Lord will several other children as well. You are the perfect match for me, together through your leadership, I pray that our relationship point to God's Holiness, Glory and Good. I love our family. Happy Fathers Day

Pink & Brown and Grandma & Grandpa

So last night Tom and Joy (Owen's mom and dad) came over and they took us to my new favorite dinner place--Cibo. It's a great pizzaria in the heart of the historic district in downtown Phoenix, about 1.5 miles from our house. The food is great! Clara did wonderfully too, I love it when you walk into a room with diners and you see the look on people's face that say "great, a baby" and then watch your child be the picture of perfect behavior!

Oh by the way, is this not the cutest onsie in the whole world? I found a super cute pack of onsies at Wal-Mart. I love color combinations and pink and brown is probably one of my favorite. So that's it for now. Enjoy the photos

Favorite sun hat

Too cute for words

First Swimming Day!

We took Clara to the Encanto Park Pool today for the first time! Yes I am one of those mothers that is paranoid about sunburn so I got this "full body" suit for Clara. It is WAY too big but at least it will last all summer. This is her sitting on the couch with her towel before we left and that's my hotty husband holding Clara as they just got into the pool.

Here's Clara with me in the pool. She wasn't quite sure if she liked the pool. It was warm outside, but the pool was pretty chilly. She lasted about 15 minutes before she was totally done. See below

I think she was in the stroller all of 2 minutes before she looked like this! We've definitely taken note that this is a sure way to wear our little bird out!

Bath Time & Clicker!

Bath time! We typically don't give Clara baths, we prefer to do showers in the evenings. But sometimes we break out the bath tub thingy. When she was born, clara's entire body was about the size of her middle section now! Hard to believe how much she can change in such a short time.

Don't worry, she wasn't really watching TV, but the fantastic "glazed" over look definitely looks like she is. Dad was enjoying her excitement over playing with the clicker.

True Maurer Tradition

Posted by Picasa
If any of you have had the pleasure of viewing a Maurer home video, seeing a slide show or hearing the boys remember their childhood, it always includes some sort of water play...From what I hear, the boys really believed that they were swimming in the tree wells. Today was Clara's initiation as a true Maurer as she played outside in the hose water. You can see she enjoyed her time in the shallow water as dad was watering the yard. Dad looks proud. I love them both and was glad to be the photographer.

Buddy & Bald Spot

This is Clara's buddy James. He comes over regularly and plays with Clara. Well, mostly he comes over and plays with Clara's toys because he hasn't noticed Clara yet. Don't worry James, there is still time!

I also wanted to include a picture of Clara's bald spot. It get's worse by the week! I believe she will have a mullet some day soon. We've been getting more and more comments like "Oh wow, what has she been doing?" or "Does she spend a lot of time in her car seat?" Just for the record, it's from sleeping on her back. It does look like we took her to the barber shop and the stylist "bicked" that spot. Very funny.

She is also getting better at playing in her megasaucer. She actually likes playing with her other toys more in her megasaucer than when she just has them in her lap. And the other picture was just too cute to pass up. It's her lipless grin!
