The Storm

By God's great mercy, the tree pictured above didn't fall on the house. The house although surrounded by fallen trees, was unscathed. This is the aftermath of the storm that hit Phoenix on Thursday evening. As mentioned below, Owen and I were house sitting. We noticed around 10 pm that the power had gone off and so we began to wander around the house to find some flashlights. Then we started looking outside and noticed quite a bit of debris in the yard...and then we saw more debris. As I was on the phone with the home owners we saw that there was defnitely one large tree down. After our phone call ended the storm intensified and we ran up the stairs to get Clara, and then ran quickly back down to the basement. We knew that this was no ordinary storm! So the above picture is what we discovered was outside. Below was a bench
This photo was taken the morning after. Had this tree fallen the other direction it would have been in the living room of the house.
This picture...fortunately it was not at the house where we were staying...but yes that is a Jaguar. Makes you think of how we should hold loosely to the things that are fleeting and hold on to Jesus!
We started the night at Bill & Peggys, went to our house after the power was out, then our power went out and then we went to Grandma and Grandpas house. Needless to say it was a long night.

House Sitting

Here are a few pictures of Clara enjoying the beautiful home of Bill & Peggy this past week. Bill and Peggy are in our small group with us and actually live about 1/2 mile from our house. They have a dog named Sheba who Clara absolutely loved! I am not sure that Sheba enjoyed having Clara pull her hair or scream like Marriah Carey but it was super cute seeing Clara flap her arms like she was going to fly away and laugh each time the dog walked in the room. Sheba is offically a good sport.

It's Coming!

Owen and I have been housesitting for some friends this past week...It was quite exciting and I have TONS of pictures. I will post later in the week.

BTW we are also without power along with the 65000 other residents in Phoenix. So in case you don't see a post right away hang in there. It will come! I also have some incredible pictures of the storm from last night.

Cardiology, Cars & Clara

So this is my new surprise car...well I guess it's an SUV. We had been saving for a new car and planned on buying in December. BUT we have a wonderful brother Isaac who bought this car and then decided it wasn't a good fit for him...he sold it to us and we gave him the camry and some $$. He got a really cool motorcycle which is what he really wanted in the first place. So it was an overall win-win
Not necessarily the most "green" thing to do in our day and age, but we've never calimed to be green! See the nice interior?
It's a sport Edition...ummm for all that off roading we do.
Clara's cardiology appointment was as uneventful as you could possibly imagine. She's fine, the murmur is what they call an "innocent murmur" and the Dr. pretty much said that the pediatician that recomended a follow up was being extra cautious. She did see her regular doc today and she was super pleased with Clara's progress. I took her in because she had a wierd rash like thing under both armpits, it turns out it's exema...duh, I've had exema all my life. I can't believe I didn't recognize it. She weighs 17 lbs and 1 oz and is 27 inches long. She is now in the 50% which is a far cry from where she began! This is Clara today, showing mommy her book and sort of enjoying the tummy time.

We have Clara's cardiology appointment today to check on her heart murmur. I am sure it's nothing but I will definitely post when we get home (after we get a sleepy baby to bed, we have about 3 hours at the dr. today). I am also taking her to her regular pediatrician to check on her frequent BM issues and weird rash under her arm. So much fun. I promise some pictures too.

Clara is happy once again on her tummy! She is starting to kick and move her arms so hopefully crawling is not too far behind

Hard to not give her exactly what she wants when she looks like that!
Although she looks a little like a character off of "Little House on the Prarie", I think this is one of the cutes dresses ever! Thanks again dad and Lynn for lending your fashionistaness to our daughter. (Do you like that word? I think I made it up) She

Happy Birthday Megan!

Happy Birthday to our dear friend Megan...she's the brunet in the lower left & center pictures. She and her hubby Erick started a small group last year and invited Owen and I with 3 or 4 other couples to join them in a Bible study through Acts...then we did a marriage study and now we have over 26 people in our group...not sure of the total number, but it is clear that the Lord is blessing this group. We are so thankful that Erick and Megan have been sensetive to the Lords leading! We had a great time celebrating Megans birthday at Los Olivos in Scottsdale, there were many kids and many adults and lots of food! Thanks Megan!

Clara was just playing and posing so I couldn't help but take some photos. She's telling her Noni in all of these pictuers that she misses her and wishes she'd come and visit!

Clara, Meet Loren

So one of my closest friends from college is suddenly living in Phoenix. So I thought it would be fun for him to come over and meet Clara. The first few minutes were a little rough but Clara warmed up to Loren!

Loren and I sang together for 4 years at countless concerts and worship services. We served in the BSA (Yes, that stands for Black Student Awareness Club) and we also hung out a lot in college. Lolo as he's affectionately known, is one of the most anointed vocalists I've ever heard. When I get all of the details for the show he is in I'll post it on the web. Everyone in Phoenix should definitely go see him! Love you lo!

Clara took a nap like this for a little while today. I think she tries very hard to keep herself awake at nap time and will do just about anything to keep from falling asleep...her little foot is just about the sweetest thing ever.

I have been amazed at the last few months of how much Clara has changed. She went from being nursed to bottles, she went from just laying there to sitting up and reaching for toys, she can roll over again (she took a few months break on that trick), she babbles all of the time and she definitely recognizes daddy and mommy and a few other folks!

So in thinking of how much she has changed, perhaps these two pictures illustrate it best...The first one is of Clara coming home from the hospital. As you can see, we couldn't get the straps any tighter. I am sure it wasn't safe! Owen just moved her car seat straps up to the "highest level" and she looks like such a big girl! Amazing. Wow. Praise God for His miraculous design.

What's a mommy to do?

Seriously! I know it's terrible to say this, but I have been pretty bored the last few days! Clara has been playing, eating and napping and sleeping at night very well. She's in that "very happy baby phase" for which I am so grateful! But, in the midst of having a very happy baby, I have a busy body that has nothing to do! So you wonder, what do I do all day? I was going to write our schedule down, but really, who wants to read that? Today, Clara gave me a fashion show...well really, I made her give me a fashion show. Here are the pictures.

Who can resist a baby girl in jeans?

The white dress...Ok, two white dresses!

And the one piece!

I know I know, you're saying that I should go to the park, (it's 115 people), I should read a book (I've read 8 books in the last 2 weeks, seriously). So it's the blog that is now occupying my time!
Thank you for all of you contributions to Clara's wordrobe. She's quite fashionable.

Splash park!

Clara and I went with Amanda and her son James to a splash park in Paradise Valley the other day. It was pretty fun but super hot! The kids lasted all of 20 minutes but it was great to get out of the house! We also enjoyed a quick picnic lunch before driving on home.
